LOOKING FOR TWO RESEARCH ASSISTANTS - Canada

“I am looking for two research assistants to work on the “Inuit Sea Ice Use and Occupancy Project (ISIUOP),” funded by the International Polar Year Commission. The project counts with several collaborators across Canada, and it consists on mapping and documenting Inuit knowledge and use of the sea ice in several communities of Nunavut.
Profile
This offer is directed to advanced undergraduate students with the intention of pursuing a Masters Degree in Anthropology at Carleton University, starting in September 2007. I am looking for motivated students, who should be willing to work on different tasks within the framework of the project. Candidates should show an interest in some of the following areas: Anthropology of indigenous cultures, cartography, cultural geography, climate change. Good computer skills are necessary, and knowledge of Geographic Information Systems would be an asset.
The conditions of the work/contract will be established upon conversation, but in principle the assistantships are for two years starting on July or September 2007. This is a very exciting project that could also open up possibilities for future work/research/fieldwork.
