The Department of Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London, invites applications for a career-track Lectureship in Political Science, tenable from September 1, 2009.

The Department was founded in August 2004 and has quickly established its research base focused upon three new research centres: the Centre for European Politics, the Centre for Global and Transnational Politics, and the New Political Communication Unit.

In its first entry into the RAE (2008), the Department was ranked in the top ten among small Politics departments in the UK, finishing 9th among those with fewer than 20 researchers, and 2nd among those with fewer than 15 researchers.

Royal Holloway is one of the major Colleges of the federal University of London and is among the elite group of UK university institutions. In RAE 2008, the College ranked 16th out of 159 UK institutions of higher education in terms of the proportion of its research belonging in the highest possible category (4-star).

You will demonstrate strong evidence of research excellence. You will make significant contributions to the delivery of the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and undertake supervision of doctoral students. You will be an effective team player and an active and vital member of this busy and intellectually vibrant Department.

For this Lectureship we have interests in one or more of the following areas: British politics, European politics, United States politics. Expertise in advanced quantitative methodology will be considered desirable, but not essential.

You will be expected to have been awarded your PhD by September 1, 2009. This is a permanent, career-track position, subject to the successful outcome of a three-year period of probation.

The salary will be in the range £38,666 - £45,756 p.a., inclusive of London Allowance.  The College offers a relocation package.
