Place dans une expédition au Finnmark

“Dear colleagues,

I have a subsidized place for our next dog-sled expedition across Finnmark, March-April 2009, a continuation of the IPY project “The Arctic Frontline”. This is a great opportunity for a young researcher with interest in the Barents Region, Reindeer Herding, or Climate Change, to do some larger scale fieldwork with Sami reindeer herders on a variety of
topics… and to have fun!

We’re looking for a social or interdisciplinary scientist with experience in conducting field interviews who’ll work closely with the expedition leader and a natural scientist. Knowledge of reindeer-herding practices, Sami culture as well as Norwegian/Sami/Russian languages would definitely be an asset.

We’ll be travelling on dog sleds (each member has a 6-dog team) for nearly 2 months leaving from Skørnen Fjord on the North Sea beginning March 2009 and moving eastward, meeting with Sami reindeer herders across Finnmark, Finnish Lapland and Kola Peninsula (reaching Lovozero mid to end April). For more details on the travel route, project’s aims and
objectives, staff etc., please visit the Finnmark-2007 web-site:
www.finnmark2007.com

Interested candidates please send a CV along with a 1-page letter of motivation describing your experience, interests, and why you want to join the expedition.

Dr. Dessislav Sabev,
Chief scientist, Finnmark-2007

PS:
The members of the expedition would prefer a Ph.D. or at least some
academic degree (M.A. or M.Sc.) with some interest/experience in one of
the following topics:
- Climate change
- Reindeer herding
- Barents Region
- Sami politics

Should other questions, info needs, appear, do not hesitate to ask me.
